Walking in Their Steps

Walking in Their Steps

I have participated in youth reenactment handcart treks, and I always wanted to depict one. For those not familiar with this activity, the youth, often dressed like pioneers, spend 2 or 3 days pulling handcarts and pondering the sacrifices of the early members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who emigrated to Utah in the 1850’s. It’s a meaningful experience to contemplate what these early Church members did for their faith.

Someone looked at my painting and said, “They didn’t wear sunglasses like that in the 1800’s.” I said, “I know.” I pointed out the blue and orange thermoses as well.
